PRESENTATION ON HUNGER IN THE NEK IN CRAFTSBURY COMMON

   A presentation by Dorigen Keeney on hunger in the Northeast Kingdom will be held Wednesday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m., at the Craftsbury Public Library in Craftsbury Common. She will talk about the impact of hunger on learning and health, and about the array of solutions that can be used to protect children from hunger. Her presentation will also include 14-minute documentary. The event is free and open to the public.

IRASBURG UNITED CHURCH SENIOR LUNCH

VFT TO PRESENT DISNEY MUSICAL

   On Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m., Vermont Family Theatre will present Disney’s The Aristocats Kids at the Cornerstone Church on Quarry Road in Derby (beyond IROC). This is a musical based on the cartoon and admission is free. Items are also being collected for the Frontier Animal Shelter — bring in a cat or dog treat and join in the fun.

 

CHORAL WORK PERFORMED AT UNITED CHURCH OF NEWPORT

   A choral work, Sing for the Cure: A Proclamation of Hope, will be presented Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m., at the United Church of Newport on Third Street. This event is the beginning of the weekend celebration for Relay for Life, based on true stories of breast cancer survivors and their families. Refreshments will be served following the performance. Admission will be by donation, with all proceeds going to Relay for Life.

 

NORTHEAST REGION 4-H HORSEMANSHIP CLINIC

BIG BAND DANCE TO BENEFIT OLD STONE HOUSE MUSEUM

   The third annual dance at Irasburg Town Hall, with music by the 19-piece St. Johnsbury Big Band 2008, will be held Saturday, June 21, from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, $25 per couple. BENEFIT YARD SALE FOR NEK SPAY-NEUTER PROGRAM

   A Benefit Yard Sale for Northeast Kingdom Spay-Neuter Program will be held Saturday, June 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 172 Sias Avenue in Newport. Items will include Atlanta wood stove, cord of wood, furniture, console TV, Aiwa stereo system, computer, kitchenware, quality items.

 

BENEFIT DANCE & RAFFLE IN DERBY

   A Benefit Dance and Raffle will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Derby to benefit two-year-old Katie Grace Kelley who has leukemia. Music will be provided by Prue’s Blues. There will be raffles all evening with many items donated by local businesses. No admission. All donations and proceeds will go directly to Katie and her family to help with cost of transportation, gas, sitters, etc. Come out and have a good time and help this little girl and her family.

   The Newport Police Department will sponsor a weeklong Public Safety Education Camp from June 23 through the 27th. For males and females 13 to 17 years old who are interested in a Public Safety field. This year’s camp is a day camp with one overnight. Cost is $50 for the week.
