CELEBRATION AT ORLEANS COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS
A July 4th Celebration will be held Friday at Orleans County Fairgrounds in Barton, from 8 a.m. to dusk. $5 admission, under 12 free. Car load special from 6 to 9 p.m. is $5 per car. Tractor pull, horse pulling, horse show, open sugarhouse, chicken barbecue, grand parade at 2 p.m., fireworks, food, games, and more. Island Pond’s 4th of July celebration will start at 11 a.m. with a parade and end with fireworks at dusk and DJ Rockin’ Roland at Pickle’s Pub, Clyde River Hotel at 10 p.m. Other events will include live music by Northern Star and Coventry Rhodes Band, a moonwalk and dunking booth eighth-grade fund-raiser, boat parade, and chicken barbecue.
BOOK SALE & FARMER’S FAIR AT DAILEY LIBRARY IN DERBY
The Dailey Memorial Library in Derby will hold an annual Book Sale and Bake Sale on Friday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Farmers’ Fair will be held for the first time on the green behind the library — a place to buy local products and crafts. STORY WALKS ON THE NEWPORT BIKE PATH
The Vermont Department of Health and the Newport Recreation Department have teamed up to offer Story Walks on the Newport bike path and walking trails the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of each month through October. The Story Walk is an activity that promotes reading and physical activity and leads families along the bike path with pages from children’s books at various intervals. A self-guided tour, you can go any time and at your own pace. The book featured for July is “How My Parents Learned to Eat.” The entrance to the bike path is on Lakemont Road and parking is available at North Country Hospital. GUIDED TOUR OF BARTON
Crystal Lake Falls Historical Association will hold the first of four scheduled guided tours of Barton, covering School Street to Main Street, then south to the old Hood’s Creamery, on Sunday, July 6, at 2 p.m. Tour will be highlighted by pictures and commentary about building construction and businesses that flourished during Barton’s heyday and beyond. Terry Wright has offered to furnish his team of Belgian horses and wagon that will accommodate 12 people. Tour will end back at the Pierce House Museum for cookies and lemonade. If canceled because of inclement weather, the tour will be rescheduled to the following Sunday.
