Wind power -- Sheffield
Introduction to our wind coverage

The push to place wind farms on Northeast Kingdom ridgelines has been an ongoing story in the pages of this newspaper since the idea was first floated in the Legislature by wind developers in 2003.
Since then there have been two formal proposals brought before the state’s regulatory agency on electrical generation and transmission, the Public Service Board.  A third is presently in the planning phase.
Of all the sources for renewable energy in Vermont, none has been touted more assiduously or raised more controversy than wind.  And no where else has the object of that debate focused so emphatically than on the mountain tops of the Northeast Kingdom, the most rural and wooded region of the state and one that has been singled out by sportsmen and environmentalists alike for its rugged beauty and unique ecological system.
It has been our privilege as a newspaper to cover this debate that has ranged from town halls in East Haven and Sheffield to committee rooms in the Legislature and before the bench of the state’s highest court.  What you will find under this heading is a compilation of articles arranged chronological under the names of each of the three projects.  Stories outside these projects are filed under miscellaneous.
