WESTMORE — The two teenagers who were killed in a one car crash here Tuesday, August 24, were Philip Leno, 17, of Orleans and Norman Woolard, 16, of Westmore, State Trooper Sean Selby wrote in a press release.
The name of the driver of the 1994 Toyota Supra that collided with the ledges on Route 5A along Lake Willoughby was not released. He is 14 years old. He sustained only minor injuries.
The car was totaled.
At 4 p.m. that day, State Police got a report that a gray car was racing around Route 16 and Route 5A at the North Beach in Westmore. While troopers were on their way, they received a 911 cellular phone call from a boater on the lake. The caller said a gray car had collided with the rock ledge about a mile south of the fishing access.
The passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police found no evidence of drug or alcohol impairment, says the press release.
State’s Attorney Keith Flynn said in an interview Monday that the case has not reached his desk yet. When he gets it he will have to decide whether to charge the driver as an adult, or in Juvenile Court.
Juvenile Court has a provision of privacy.
The state’s statute has guidelines, said Mr. Flynn, and there are some cases that must go to Juvenile Court.
